Promoting Civic Engagement to improve Local Government Services- Dutch Embassy- 2019-2020
In a 12-month project with the Dutch Embassy on promoting civic engagement to improve local government services, IRC built the capacity of 4 low-income and religiously diverse union councils in Lahore in civic engagement and community mobilization. As a result of this project, these communities led massive advocacy campaigns on water and sanitation and were able to achieve tangible improvements in their civic amenities.
Establishing Participatory Accountability Process- CIDA-PIF- 2005-2007
In this project IRC and CIDA-PIF worked in Shalimar Town, Lahore and Bhakkar Tehsil. The aim was to mobilize tehsil governments for supply of better water, environment and sanitation services by engaging communities in the planning and development process. The project also aimed to empower communities to demand their rights from their local governments in a peaceful manner. The project started with documenting voices of people regarding the problems they face in provision of effective services. IRC then developed theatre plays on the issue and used video profiles and theatre to raise voices of people.
